ER Wait Times in Harris County Hospitals

Average wait times at hospital in Harris County show the time patients can expect to spend. Actual wait times will depend on many factors, such as severity of the injury, time of day, and staffing. Patients are quickly evaluated as part of a triage process, so the most severe cases can be treated first. Depending on the hospital, this initial wait can run from a few minutes to over an hour. The times below also include wait times for initial treatment, since there can be many delays after the triage process. Choose an ER with a shorter wait time to get seen more quickly.

These are the average time from entering the ER to being admitted to the hospital by a doctor. In a busy ER, patients will be seen by a triage nurse first. Then the wait time will vary by severity, and how busy the ER is at the time of day. Patients with less serious problems could have substantially longer waits.

There is a 431 minute wait difference between the fastest ER in Harris and the slowest.

: "I got very good care at the E.R. I went to; the hospital was Holy Cross (Providence) Med. Ctr. in Mission Hills. Was seen after 1 hrs. 40 min. after registering at 10:45 p.m. ; my situation was not dire (wound to lower leg) but required imm. medical attention within 12 hrs. Was told that the best time to come is was the "quiet zone" from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. to avoid a lengthy wait. But, who can time emergencies to fit such a time frame? (Had previously gone to West Hills E.R.; was placed in a room with very ill patients (average wait time 2 -3hrs +) and decided to change locations). Holy Cross gets a 4/5 rating for being a responsive and well-staffed E.R. Dept. and providing patients with info. about projected wait times. Could have been better if the water was working/indoors restrooms open....but had wash stations/port-a-potties outside (temporary problem at H.C. Hosp.)" - Ellen

: "I've been in this ER waiting room for more than 6 hours with abdominal pain. I fully understand priority order, but this is absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous. If it were my appendix, I'd be dead by now. " - Clayton

: "I’m sitting here in the waiting room to be seen. Been here a couple of hours so I know I have a few more. It’s 10:30pm. Sure I’m in a lot of pain and want to be seen. I’m hearing people say they have been here since 3:00pm. Another 5:30pm. Sick little boy miserable. It’s taking two or more hours just to get registered. And now I hear a kid was brought in by ambulance and has to sit in the waiting room. Unbelievable. I understand they whole concept of triage, but I don’t get their system. So someone not as “important “ will continue to get knocked down the list every time someone comes in they deem more important yet both have to sit in the waiting room for hours. This makes no sense. This is our healthcare system. " - Lisa

: "Very unfortunate and disappointed to say the least!! Originally went in on the 14th of July I had low pressure for 8 hours in the ER and chest pain doctor diagnosing with upper respiratory virus my blood pressure was so low I fell off the bed and I was in so much pain but the doctor not interested! She misdiagnosed me not giving me antibiotics which it turned out not to be viral it was bacterial.so the next doctor I saw tried to cover up for the first doctor and prescribing antibiotics but no blood work knowing my white blood cell count was up. Because I questioned them I was treated very bad!!! But in retrospect they didn't do there job! 3 time seen in ER I spoke to the director befor" - Ml
