Adventist Healthcare White Oak Medical Center: "My husband was admitted to Adventist Healthcare While oak and spent 19 days. He has been admitted to other hospitals for long periods of time and I can say this hospital stay was horrible. Long wait times for staff to respond to call button, staff acting rude and uncaring. I made several complaints to charge nurse and each time they acted like they were going to fix the complaint but the rudeness and long wait times continued. I stayed with my husband for most of his hospital stay because I knew his care would be inadequate. He has cognitive issues so I wanted to be sure he got the care he needed. On the days I could not stay another family member would stay with him. I even told his Care Manager at the hospital that I am staying with him because of all the issues I was having. I had issues with communication from the doctors, him being given medicine that he should not be taking because he has kidney disease, having staff following orders when doctors wanted him out if bed to exercise and many other issues! Also had problems with receiving medical equipment that care manager ordered at discharge. I will avoid this hospital in the future!

Luminis Health J Kent Mcnew Family Medical Center: "My husband was admitted to McNew following a visit to the ED after a suicide attempt. He was released in about a week even though he was still suicidal. We told the case worker that he shouldn't be released and that he was lying to the providers there about feeling well. We also asked to speak to the psychiatrist treating him but were never allowed to do so. We were always told that we had to communicate to the doctor through the case worker. Despite making them aware that he was still a very high risk, they nevertheless released him. Moreover, they didn't pursue enrolling him in a partial hospitalization program as a "step down." He was just released with no plan except to see his personal psychiatrist. Less than 48 hours after release, he made a very severe, nearly successful attempt to end his life. He is now permanently disabled from this attempt. This might not have been the outcome if they didn't discharge him prematurely. Again, after being told that he was still severely suicidal and would be a danger to himself if released. Even though the facility is nice, I would never recommend anyone being admitted here. There are other facilities that allow families to speak to the treating psychiatrists and be more involved in the patient's care (e.g., Sheppard Pratt)." - Areti
