Walker Baptist Medical Center Stories

Jul 23, 2017, 10:02 PM
Walker Baptist Medical Center: "my husband was seen in WBMC ER for forearm laceration from a blade from an air conditioning unit. There was miscommunication upon our arrival that it was a chainsaw laceration. there was a COMPLETE lack of compassion from nurses and nurse practitioner, it was obvious they were disappointed that it wasn't an actual chainsaw laceration. He was given Tramadol after the xray was complete, then after the wound was cleaned and stapled ( it took 12 staples ), he was still in quite a bit of pain. I went to the nurse's desk ( after finally getting her attention, she was on her cell phone ), I asked if there was anything else that could be given for pain, she looked at me and said that it was just a small laceration and that the injections given before being stapled should have helped with the pain and that he would be discharged soon. I looked at her and said that he was not a painseeker, unfortunately, I did not get any names. when she came back in with 600mg of Ibuprofen, she proceeded to tell me how they thought he was coming in for chainsaw laceration and expecting to see his leg hanging halfway off, but when they saw his 'small' laceration, they were surprised. I am a Brookwood Baptist employee, but never let anyone know, and as usual, the ER experience I/my family have received in the company I WORK in is, again, another unpleasant experience." - bw
