St Luke's Hospital - Anderson Campus: "PATIENT BEWARE!!! I went to the ER for extreme pain in my lower abdomen and groin. The pain was unbearable from the night before I could not even walk up steps. After explaining myself to the staff, that this is most likely due to an ongoing issue from her hernia repair surgery I had in 2019 that had resulted in me being in more pain than I was before my surgery and that pain has never gone away since waking up from that initial surgery. I added that in 2022 meshes had to be removed due to the fact that they failed, further explaining that the meshes curled on themselves and another umbilical hernia had returned. I reiterated and further gave detail and explanation as to how I had a specialist in another state review my scans done here and how he found mesh failure and reoccurring hernias as this is why I had them removed. Again I noted the staff would not find this information in their system because it was done out of state. Unfortunately I had to explain this long story 5 different times to different interns. So after examining me I suggested to do another CT scan to see if everything is OK cause I’m in a lot of pain and I’m scared because the pain is so unbearable. A short time after my CT scan, I’m anxiously waiting results and a very young woman walks in, states her name Jennifer Hwang and says that she’s been asked to come in and talk to me about my health history again. Immediately I feel very uncomfortable because her bed side manner was rather unprofessional and hasty. Come to find out she’s an intern not a PA or doctor. So again I proceeded to tell her my health history all over again from start to finish, while at the computer she asks me for the doctors name that originally did my surgery in 2019 at st Luke’s . I told her and then also gave her the name of the doctor that I’ve been having my care with here in Pennsylvania and the specialist who did my surgery in Florida.
She asked me how did they know the mesh is needed to be removed I told her there was a CT scan done and I was sent to the specialist and he confirmed that the meshes were folding in on themselves and that one of my hernias had already returned. At this point she begins to call me a liar and my surgeon in Florida a quack because my ct scan reports from PA were not showing mesh failure. I again reiterated that my surgeon out of state was specialist in hernia revision and their was no further need for her to disrespect him or his credentials by calling him a quack. She now starts to get verbally combative with me and begins to badger me with negative remarks on her opinion of my surgeons of choice. She continues to ridicule me with insults, tell me I’m lying and makes jokes about my choice of surgeons again. Referring again to my doctors as quacks in the medical field. She even takes out her phone to Gesture that I was making up the names of my surgeons. At this point I’m very uncomfortable with her presence and am scared that she truly does not have my best interest or intentions. Now making rude obnoxious comments about my surgeons and their qualifications. At this point she was using sly racial innuendos saying “you people” don’t know what your talking about. Seemingly referring to my ethnicity. I had enough at this point and I’m emotional and upset because I feel like I’m being interrogated for something I wasn’t even their for. I stood up for myself and told her to leave the room because I wasn’t going to be interrogated, belittled and racially profiled anymore. At this point the intern continued to badger me some more and I told her if she did not leave my room that I would leave myself. She finally left and immediately began telling everyone in the hall a different story. I immediately left and went downstairs to find security and request to speak with upper management or supervisor. At this point I didn’t even know the results of my ct scan that was done to investigate the sever pain I was having. The intern supervisor comes down to speak with me and I explained everything that happened and even she agreed that there was no reason for her to be insult, badger and ridicule me in that way about previous and current medical history. I explained for the last time how and why I was there and told her Im in a lot of pain and I’m scared because I don’t know what’s going on. I come to St Luke’s seeking care and this is how I get treated. The supervisor puts me in another room so she can further review my ct scan results and talk to an actual doctor. Do not go to St. Luke’s and will not refer any to go there. The professionalism and bed side manner is horrendous at best."
