South Texas Health System: "One week ago, September 20,2022 I experienced a terrifying event, and I want y'all to know about the lifesavers at Ware Rd ER, Dr. HERNANDEZ, Nurse Ale & Rick, and Tech Ivan, and the one in training for PA in the pink scrubs with the bun, they all were so calm, while I was dying, it is the only way I can describe it. I was having troubles breathing the whole week, it happened before but it always passed, that morning was different, so I stopped into the ER on the way home from South Texas College I am taking some classes there. I checked in and I got some antibiotics through IV, some Rocephin through IV, and some azithromycin through IV and a neb treatment. Nurse Ale and I shared a moment as she giggled to when I reacted to what I was being administered, I had a sigh of relief and laid back, an hour later I was being released, as Nurse Ale walked me out, she was about to share her experience with covid and not being able to take 5 steps with losing air to be able to breathe, AND THEN all the air in me just disappeared, I grabbed her hand and squeezed with one hand and was grasping my chest and neck with the other hand, wondering where all the air was, long story short, they helped me through what I will call an event, one that will be one of the most traumatic experiences of my entire life, I was experiencing a severe anxiety attack, COPD exacerbation -flare-up, and dealing with hypertension. Throughout the episode the nurses, Dr, Techs, emanated their calm, cool, and perfect composure as I clawed at their scrubs and reaching out and squeezing their hands begging them to not let me die, they all stood around like strong mighty angels the ones with swords and wings so high, as I looked straight into their compassionate eyes with all my energy pulling strength to breathe through them. Amid this my 18 yr. old kid came in the room hesitated with a look I had never seen in his eyes before, he needed the car keys to get to class, I said with a burst of love get them and go to class, go. I was drenched in sweat, and I looked into the Dr. Hernandez’s eyes he said, “Maria your oxygen is 98, your blood pressure is stable, there is nothing we can do”, right when he said that I let go of something so unexplainably mysterious and sat down, with 2 IV’s, and oxygen tubes hanging off me and that defibrillator machine looming beside me, I could not comprehend what I was up against were all my thoughts while he spoke. I laid back and then all the nurses and the Dr., worked on me to keep me calm as I was being prepared to be transported to the main hospital McAllen Medical Center. I stayed for 2 nights and a day. I was renewed. I am a new me. The care and medicines I received all worked together. I was on the 7 EAST wing and Dr. Forno with his students following him and learning was so amazing to witness. The 1st morning, he dropped into the room I was so shaken up and nervous, but the 2nd morning I was like a 5year-old ready to play at chuck’e’cheeses. Also, Ivan the tech at the ER on WARE Rd, he really knows how to get a COVID sample with no fuss, especially from me, with all that I was going through I wished him luck, and he said he had something better, and he did, hats off to you to getting that nose sample from me. THANK YOU ALL OF YOU WHO WORK AT HOSPITALGIVING US CHANCES AT LIVING MORE DAYS OF LIFE.
