Regional Medical Center At Memphis Stories

Regional Medical Center At Memphis: "My son was taken to Region One following a MVA on 12/23/20 . He was not unconscious or in any way incapacitated that he could not answer questions or provide information to the healthcare team . At no time was he asked about insurance information . He spent 5 hours in the ER sitting on a stretcher in the hall watching people come and go . He wasn’t offered a meal or anything to drink , or the opportunity to use the restroom. His father and I were turned away at the emergency desk by a very rude woman . I wanted so bad to ask her if she was a mother . Because as a healthcare worker myself I understand the restrictions COVID-19 has caused in the healthcare arena . However when you arrive to a ER as a mother or any relatives you should be meet with kindness and not “ If he was bad you would know it”. My son was discharged early morning of 12/24 . Within 2 weeks he received a bill via certified letter from the court for a debt unpaid . No one attempted to call him to even see if he had insurance. The bill was for $18,000 dollars as well as 2 doctors bills for over $1200 a piece that were also in collections. This is how the credit of young people are ruined before they ever get started and in this case could have easily been settled with a simple question , Do have insurance ? I am beyond angry and frustrated at how my son was treated . " - Alicia
