Parkland Medical Center Stories

May 19, 2017, 3:10 AM
Parkland Medical Center: "I arrived around 5:45 pm feeling weak and feverish. Had symptoms of chills, fever, nausea, weakness and sweats for four plus days. During triage they initially read my temperature using the forehead swipe equipment. The reading was 106. They swiped again and reading was 107. They then used the under the tongue method and I believe my temp. read around 103. I was moved to a room and initial readings were taken and a chest xray. Then I was connected to four IV fluid bags to get me hydrated. I was told about an hour later I had pneumonia and I would be admitted. Unfortunately things began to fall apart at this point. The outgoing PR didnt fill out the paperwork correctly to have admitted and I was forgotten in the room for over two hours. The fluid bags had emptied over an hour earlier. When I brought myself back to their attention they realized the mistake and began to admit me. So I have pneumonia, they put me in a room with a gentleman who had recently left ICU. In my condition, I didn't think that,I should be in a room with a man who was very susceptible. I was moved into another room. I am a type two diabetic and my blood sugar levels were over 300 when i was in the ER. I didn't get an insulin shot until 2:00 am. The air conditioning happens to not be working and while I type this sweat is running down my back soaking my pillow and blurring my vision. All the staff have been kind, I will say that." - Michael
