New Milford Hospital: "Was told to arrive 1 hour before my husbands one day surgery, which we did. He was taken in immediately for his insurance stats and then taken to prep area. I was told it would be a few hours and was given a time he would be ready, told to be sure to be back by that time. Deciding to stay is always my preference as I would never want to be away in the event “something” went arise. During my wait, I did overhear that surgeries were once ahead of schedule, now were being delayed. I was NOT given any heads up. Rather than that.. I was informed 15 minutes prior to his “pick up” time that he was JUST going in for the procedure. There is a certain amount of worry and concern that occurs when a loved one is receiving a procedure that CAN have complications. When I was notified I asked why I wasn’t told 2 hours ago, it was explained to me that she didn’t know...yet appropriately 90 minutes ago she did know there were delays. Personally I find this “notice” TOTALLY unacceptable, callous and without regard for the waiting spouse. While I do understand things happen, proper communication and compassion were lacking in this situation. Perhaps to some my husbands procedure might be routine however your SOP practices need to be greatly adjusted to consider the waiting person and the patient. Simply going through the motions like a robot has lead to this review and anyplace else I can post it. " - Gayle
