    Mercy Hospital Joplin Stories

    May 11, 2023, 4:41 PM
Mercy Hospital Joplin: "I went to the Mercy Emergency room in Joplin Mo on 05.08.23 2:21 pm- released 05.09.23 4:23 am -I was sent to the ER due to my Family Dr concern of a Hernia that was poking out the front of my stomach, I arrived at 2:21 pm to check in, and saw few people in the waiting room but know that this usually still takes a great deal of time to be seen, I was hopeful when they come out and got blood while I was waiting, and put an IV disconnected just in case needed later on when I got to the back. I waited 5 hours before I became impatient, I understand their is a shortage of Nurses, but was told 2 hours prior to this that I only had two people in front of me, I went to discuss this with the ER Admin only to be told to sit down and they would pull me over when they were done triaging another person, which was not in a ear shot but, okay I sat down and waited, she then pulled me over and explained that the people that were going around me were actually not trauma and they are quickly assessed and sent on their way (this should have cut back on my time, right, NOPE) she then explained that the reason for the early blood draw is to take the most sever patients back first, which I could have accepted except, one gentleman that was sitting with me had been there for 3 hours and had an infected tube from a surgery, and the lady right before me was there to be checked for a blood clot in her leg. So our ER person says you are coming up next, your labs are back and we will have you in no time, it was 4 1/2 hours later that I was finally called to the back, when I get to the back they feel my belly and said well we need to do a CT scan, but sorry ours is in use and wont be available for another 1 to 2 hours, again not true, I finally got to the back at 9:30 ish and they woke me at 2 am to do the CT scan, I then was wheeled back and told they would need to wait to get the scan read, at 3:45am ish, someone comes in and says well its fat deposits, no surgery or anything needed, mind you I was half asleep when he came in, he left the room, I got dressed and waited and waited, my paperwork says discharge papers 4:23 am but, i assure you, it was 4:45 am and I walked to the nurses station to find out if they could take out the IV needle so I could leave to find nurses standing around talking about life, I then interrupted them and asked that they remove my IV so I could leave, she says "oh, I was heading your way" apparently heading my way for the past 20-25 minutes, I explained I need to work in two hours so if she could come on, she explained non of the paper work, no referral for the hernia the paperwork said that I have and constipation, which this was my families Dr original concern about this hernia, and I was released with no instructions or anything. So I spend nearly 15 hours in the ER at Mercy, with no clear answers and by far the worst experience of my life! I have called and left messages with customer relations "Faye" and have not received a call back, and now am waiting for a call back from the Director Julie, my next step is reporting this to the state of Missouri, someone is going to die before they get seen in this facility! The lack of care of the ER department at Mercy is horrendous and next time I will drive to Springfield mo to be seen at Cox! " - Worst
