John Dempsey Hospital: "Worst care, attentiveness, courtesy. Daughter came in with severe back pain slipping on ice. She had previous injury and bad back with mri two weeks previous. First nurse acted like she couldn’t be bothered. Only came in after I came out after in room for a good time . We arrived at about 1239am and left at about 6pm. Only after asking nurse several times about progress of seeing dr did a physician assistant arrive. Still waiting...i checked at the nurse desk to see what was the path, she said an mri was ordered- no one notified us. I had to ask or probably still be there now. I asked if she would be so kind as to get a glass of water for my daughter and she told me she was too busy and to go behind the mute station and get it myself. Daughter had to go to bathroom and I asked for wheelchair. I had to navigate it myself to the bathroom.I am 74. Later when my daughter had to go to bathroom and needed commode, the nurses new guy..finally brought it and roughly tried to get my daughter off the bed. She could not move her right leg yet he was oblivious. Again later when my daughter had Uribe leakage and souled herself, I went to er nurse station when male nurse was there. I asked him for some pads and he said he wouu UK kid get to it that he was bust with computer patient information. I waiting and watched as he continued imputing info for a while. We were waiting for mri report which we were told by radiology that it would not be long since they were not busy. After waiting an hour and a half I approached the same male nurse at the desk and he blew me off again. Nurses and physician assistant were cold and rude. Patient 10/31/2020 Cynthia Poehner. That is no way to treat patients. I come from a family of physicians and they would Never treat patients with such blatant disrespect. Shame in you UConn.
If I was having a heart attack, I would never go there." - Cynthia

John Dempsey Hospital: "Went to John Dempsey ER on Thanksgiving morning at 4:00am. Very quiet. Saw 3 other patients, one before us and two after. My husband was seeking evaluation of what was causing his extensive pain. He has a life-threatening incurable cancer and severe neuropathy that force him to take pain medications around the clock. Typically the pain regimen keeps him fairly stable where pain is the issue. This day the pain medication wasn't helping at all, he had maxed out the dosage and was afraid to take more. He was getting no relief. The pain was also appearing in a non-typical way. He was writhing and groaning with pain for two and a half hours while in the ER. The doctor never saw him. She saw the patients that were there before us and the ones who came in after us. We asked multiple times for the doctor and was told she was busy. We could see her sitting at her desk. We finally left. No stopped us to ask why we were leaving. The next day he was admitted to Yale NH. Vowed never to return." - LW
