George Washington Univ Hospital: "I forgot to add that I went in w/ abdominal pain and other unusual systems (for me) and did not make the decision to go to the ER lightly. I would have preferred to wait to see a primary care but really felt so abnormal that i decided to go to the ER. But, again after waiting 8.5 hours and no word at all, it seemed like they were implicitly saying that what i told the nurse was something that had to be seen to that day and that's why i eventually left and will try again with urgent care elsewhere/primary care once a slot becomes available. But they could have communicated options rather than letting people wait and wait and wait. This was definitely a failure of hospital policy/practice. " - VC

George Washington Univ Hospital: "I will never come here again unless I can help it. 8+ hours waiting to see a doc and eventually i gave up and came home. Saw the triage nurse 2x for a check of vitals-- the first time about 20 mins after checking in, explained issues and why came in, and the second time about 6 hours after check in just to make sure i was alive. Also didn't get called to register the insurance until 2 hours after I walked in. Totally absurd. There was a man who came in with family at least 2 hours before me and he was still waiting to see a doctor even after I left after 8.5 hours. Incredibly frustrating and a wasted day. I totally ralize providers are overworked during the pandemic and they have to triage people who come in and that they can't give you definites/ certainty on when you will be seen. But they really need to be more communicative- like if it seems like i was low person on totem pole to be seen and it would be more than 4 hours (being generous)-- they could say you can stay but it will be a long while (at least another few hours) OR you may consider going to your urgent care close by, primary care, but come back if you get to severe symptoms. They gave ZERO sense of where you were and pretty much zero sense (with exceptions to visibly injured patients) that they really cared about you at all other than making sure to charge you for your ER visit cause they def were able to take your insurance. Also there are almost no power outlets around, and the toilet facilities need to be maintained better. The providers who come out and call your name don't raise their voice (so it's hard to hear them). I mean we live in the 21st century-- there really needs to be a better administrative intake system for a hospital like GWU. " - VC

George Washington Univ Hospital: "Came in at 4:30 PM after car accident looking to get tested for a possible concussion. Was briefly taken back for blood pressure/pulse, signed some intake paperwork, then waited for 6 hours without a word from anyone and no further tests performed. I left and decided to go to a doctor's office in the morning. People near me with broken bones and appendix pain were waiting for even longer.

If you don't have a gunshot/stab wound, don't even bother coming in. Really consider going elsewhere because they might just let you bleed out."
