Exeter Hospital Inc Stories

Exeter Hospital Inc: "My previous visits to Exeter Hospital ER have generally gone well, although wait time is often long, but this last visit on 11/21/2022 was especially poor. I was there at the recommendation of my PCP after 48 hours of copious blood in my urine. The waiting room was quite full with a number of sick kids with respiratory illness. Some of the kids were masked but not fully (noses not covered). Obviously the kids were really sick.

My major concern about this was that, after they were taken into an ER room, no one came out to wipe down the seats where several of them had been lying for an hour or more. In a time when RSV is on the rampant rise, this should have been done immediately and was not. Several days later, I began to have symptoms of RSV, became quite sick myself, and feel strongly sure this was about exposure to these sick children and faulty hygiene by the maintenance staff.

I was eventually taken to an ER room myself, where I had some blood drawn and a CT scan done. I explained right away that I was diabetic, had taken insulin that morning as ordered, and hadn't eaten since. I was there for another 4 hours with no food or water. I understand why this was done (in the event I needed immediate surgery for kidney stones) but no one ever checked my blood glucose level as the day went on or checked in to see how I was feeling from the insulin dosing. This has happened on previous ER visits where staff doesn't seem to take fluctuating blood sugar levels seriously.

Further, once I was cleared to go home, now nine hours after eating, no one asked if I wanted crackers to bring my level up in order to get myself home safely. I finally had to request apple juice and crackers before I felt safe to drive.

My impression is that the ER staff isn't prepared to manage a patient with diabetes and needs some further training. Also that things that shouldn't have slipped between the cracks were, in fact, falling between the cracks. I became very sick from the ER exposure to sick children (and seating not kept wiped down after those children were being cared for). I may not have been alone.

Both of these issues are basic common sense. I'm disappointed in the ER staff for their lack of attention to detail."

Exeter Hospital Inc: "4 hours and counting in the waiting room. No updates from the staff at all. I am in agony, worst experience with this hospital yet." - Nick
