Catawba Valley Medical Center Stories

Catawba Valley Medical Center: "Overall the worst experience I have ever had with a health care provider in my nearly 70 years. They hospitalized me in a private room; I was not given an option for any other room and charged $725 for one day. The room was incredibly filthy (have pictures to show filth) and it took my insurance company to obtain a itemized bill for me as they ignored my 3 requests. When I received the itemized bill, as I suspected there were nearly $250 charges for services I did not receive. The admitting doctor was a literal jerk in his diagnosis, and I will be filing a complaint with the NC medical board regarding his behavior. According to a search of his license, he did not have admitting privileges at Catawba. Additionally, Catawba violate HIPPA laws. I have contacted an attorney regarding their treatment of my stroke condition." - Regina

Catawba Valley Medical Center: "Average wait time is way off. My son renter Ed the er a couple of days ago by recommendation thinking he would be seen at a reasonable time. We thought since his medical issue was emergent it would be a no brainer that he would be seen pretty close to immediately. Boy were we surprised. We requested to wait outside due to Covid concerns and a packed waiting area and was told no he may miss his name being called. He told me to leave the area since I am high risk of contracting Covid. He then went on to wait. He was told there were three ahead of him after waiting about 4 hours still in medical emergent distress. He asked again and was told there was 7 ahead of him. And was told thereafter that he may have a 10 hour wait. Totally unacceptable that during a pandemic so many people were in a crowded waiting area. Unacceptable that my son finally left the hospital because he couldn’t tolerate waiting in the distress he was in. Thank God for Davis hospital. Clean, quiet, friendly and most of all cared about the condition of my son when he arrived for help. " - Sharon
