    Benson Hospital Stories

Benson Hospital: "I brought my wife in for a prolapse uterus. They said there was no specialist on site and could only offer her pain meds. While waiting there, we were contacted by the pharmacy asking why the doctor prescribed medication that my wife is allergic to? My wife went into a ptsd episode/panic attack because she was afraid that they had given her that med through the IV. When she confronted them, the nurse tried to say that's part of the pharmacy job to catch these things, so no harm, no foul. There's only one medication that my wife is allergic to. How hard is it not to prescribe it. I get the feeling the doc didn't read the chart. My wife confronted the doctor about his error/negligence, he turned on her and verbally attacked her. At that point she asked him to leave the room. My wife asked to be discharged and a nurse arrived a few minutes later to undo the IV. My wife tried to explain why she was upset given that he had just come on shift. He said getting upset "doesn't do any good." My wife said she just wanted to go. He said, "Well go then, just go." He was very unprofessional/emotional as was the doctor.

My wife was being verbal, she told the Dr and all the nurses from the start that she has anxiety and ptsd and was a survivor of domestic abuse and rape. When he continued to verbally attack her she told the doctor to leave, twice and still he would not leave and continued his attack. She was cornered in a small room and the door was blocked by other nurses in the room. She felt like she was being assaulted all over again. She told him to leave. She used her words and still he continued to violate her space. She asked him to leave. She expressed to me it was, "just like when I was raped. I said no. No one listened."

We came there for help and left feeling violated all over again."
