Barnes Jewish Hospital Stories

Barnes Jewish Hospital: "Drove friend to Barnes Jewish ER in the city for "bad pain" on left side of back, leg & arm, headache and vomiting 2nd day in a row. Arr 4:30-5:00 pm. After several hours he asked for place to lay down & alleviate back pain, none available, twice he laid down on bathroom floor in men's room. Received blanket for chills. Threw up several times. Continuously moaned about back pain, asked for & received 2 ibuprofen. I enquired about possible wait time at approx 9 PM & was told one man was there longer than an hour before him. At approx 11 pm and with his continuous loud groaning about pain he was taken in for exam. For next 3 hrs exam/tests were difficult to complete as he kept shouting "it hurts, it hurts"! I left at approx 2:15 AM as he was obviously sedated. Next day found out he was diagnosed with body infection and placed in Intensive Care. While triage is best guess on knowns, unknowns shouldn't be ignored or pushed back. It was pretty obvious as patients came & went, many if not most were suffering flu like symptoms needing just meds. The doctors and technicians who finally got to examine my friend were very professional in dealing with a now painfully uncooperative and very sick patient. Please update your "ER Wait Times in Saint Louis City County Hospitals"--it is far beyond the published "3h 37m"!" - Robert
