ER Wait Times in County Hospitals

Average wait times at hospital in County show the time patients can expect to spend. Actual wait times will depend on many factors, such as severity of the injury, time of day, and staffing. Patients are quickly evaluated as part of a triage process, so the most severe cases can be treated first. Depending on the hospital, this initial wait can run from a few minutes to over an hour. The times below also include wait times for initial treatment, since there can be many delays after the triage process. Choose an ER with a shorter wait time to get seen more quickly.

: "My Daughter's been in the emergency room at St Joseph hospital since 730 am. ER doctors said appendix inflammation shown on the CT, possibly surgery to remove... overwhelmed with the patient intake has the staff forgetting the patient still there. Horrible experience. She's a corandelet employee. Admittance was also scheduled at 100 pm. Still sitting on a chair with severe pain.. Said staff could monitor her if given pain meds, because of the overwhelmed patient intake. Making their priorities on patients in need has been put aside because of lake of staff.. Understand the Covid-19 burn out and overwhelming cases. But patient in need are sitting in chairs waiting for possibly critical surgery being held up. Horrible times in the medical field. But lack of staff and urgency to treat patients in need has to be blamed on the hospital president and staff assisting him or her." - Richard

: "Took my 10mnth old grandbaby to Rush Oak Park for trouble breathing, vomiting, and coughing. Was triaged and haven't been seen since. Only 3 people have been taken in back after 5 hours. A lady with an even younger baby with asthma still hasnt been seen and they were here before us." - Dani

: "My 80 year old father fell & hit his head and we have been sitting in the Rockdake hospital emergency room for OVER 14 hours. We live nearby but we were told that if we leave to go home and rest that we lose our place in line and must start over when we return. And they are very disorganized. They called him back for blood work while he was already back in CT scan. They couldn't find him for a while. Now we can't leave until he sees a doctor but he's been sitting in a wheel chair for 14 hours and he's exhausted and in pain from the chair. You don't treat our elderly like this! " - Amanda

: "St. Vincent’s W 86th St., is a NIGHTMARE. This is one ER that should be closed permanently! We have been waiting nearly 4 hours, and feels like no one cares, they absolutely do not. St. Vincent’s “Asension” get it together if you cannot take care of the patients your lock the door. Stop accepting people, let them go to a hospital who can attend to them. No words. " - M.

: "I agree with the person who said the ER wait time is the worst i have ever come across. This is a MESS, I have been waiting 5 hrs ago!!! Id like to leave but I need a diagnosis & some relief. I've been in many ER's with my husband & have never waited this long. They need a new system!!" - Jeanine

: "My dad went to the emergency for dizziness and blackouts over the weekend. He stayed for 4 hours and his doctor discovered he had a bladder infection and gave him an antibiotic and wrote a prescription to get it filled. On Wednesday I picked up his prescription to find out the nurse had wrote the wrong prescription and for my dad to get the right prescription he has to come back to emergency and get more blood test taken again. All I can say to that nurse "pay attention"" - Kathleen

: "Went to Peninsula Regional 9/9/21 with suspected COVID-19. I am 2x vaxed so was a low priority. Got triaged fairly fast, but gave up after waiting for 6hrs to see a doc. The ER was swamped and had no beds available. Patient tempers were on display. More seriously ill patients were piled up waiting. Ended up going to a local walk-in clinic, got a PCR test, but never saw a doctor. Staff was trying their best and doing a pretty good job. Impatient/demanding patients were the main problem.

PRMC (Tidal) is a well-run place - just overwhelmed."
