Vidant Medical Center: "My wife arrived at Vidant Medical Hospital in Washington NC at 11am this morning. It is now 8:53pm and they still haven’t diagnosed her as of yet. A A doctor at the triage was rude and dismissive when asked for assistance. Her symptoms consisted of stabbing pains in her abdomen and massive headache. The system is truly broken with positions filled by people who could care less about bedside manner. Furthermore, there has been a patient yelling the whole time that we were he. Most importantly, the staff did not seem to move with no sense of urgency. Such behavior is unacceptable. " - Michael

Vidant Medical Center: "I am in the e.r. today 11/26/2022 @ 255pm. I was transported by ems due to difficulties with the flu, notably dizziness, headaches, and trouble breathing. I was triaged and informed the nurse I had diarrhea so I would be by the bathroom. Shameaka in registration called my name and I am very hoarse but managed to say I'm coming and waved. Before giving me a chance to get to the front she called the next individual by the name of Williams. When I made it to the front I asked the the checkin desk who called me. Shameaka then appeared and said oh she gone have to wait now. Then said to me are you with another person being seen, I responded yes my daughter. She then stated you seem to be upset do you have a problem. I said yes I do with the lack of order here. I have the flu and difficulty breathing and have to sit near the bathroom due to stomach issues, you didn't give me a chance to get up here. She then responds well you gotta yell out or luft your hand or something and I responded I did! She then said well you will have to wait now, so I said tell you what let someone else register me because I'm not dealing with your nasty attitude and I'm already sick. She said fine then, wait. I said no problem I'd rather wait then deal with your bad attitude and unprofessionalism. This employee has a major attitude with a very disrespectful and condescending tone. She lacks empathy and is extremely unprofessional. I need this matter rectified asap. She in no way needs to deal one one one in registration with sick patients.

Vidant Medical Center: "Brought my sister Tempie Alston to the emergency room for treatment having pains in chest and was very tired.wWe had to wait over 6 hours. And still had not seen a doctor. Also she was wearing a heart monitor and she is 68 years old, also there was an 87 year that had been there for over7 hours and still had not been seen. I really do believe you all need to regroup. I Think older patients and those with severe illness should be taken first.I saw so many old people that had been there most of the day. This is totally uncalled for.Your board members need to make some changes. This is not just my opinion it's the opinion of so many more." - Eva

Vidant Medical Center: "I have family there now as I type this that have been sitting there waiting for over 6 hours. They are there at the request of their doctor because they need lab work and fluids. So if they needed fluids as a reason for going then you can only imagine how bad they need them after sitting in the waiting room for 6 hours with nothing to eat or drink." - C.

Vidant Medical Center: "I'm 65 years old woman with medical issues
( COPD, Diabetes, cholesterol issues, Thyroid condition and a breast cancer survivor). My left ankle was hurt recently when I stepped on a Crack in the side walk and I had went to physicians east. Because it was hurting and swollen and they the Dr only did a physical exam of it by eye and no X ray or any thing else that was a $234 bill I got in the mail. On the date of my regularprimary care visit March 22nd I noticed both ankles were swollen, I had only hurt my left ankle , but both were swollen and have been swollen every since. Elevation, soaking and staying off then haven't helped. On Sunday April 4th I went to Vidant medical Center per my Dr if they seem to have gotten worse. I sat in the ER for 3hrs when I asked the receptionist how long had I been waiting and when were they going to see me. She indicated I was next because everyone that was there before me hand basically been seen was gone or admitted. Others were coming in being seen and released. By that time it was going on 3 and a half to 4 hrs. I had moved from the back of the waiting room to the front because some people had bad coughing and some had no mask. I ask the receptionist to ask people to put a mask on or give them one. When entering the ER they don't take temperatures any more they ask a series of COVID questions and take your word weather you may or may not have it, even though a lot of coughing and throwing up was going on. THE young receptionist after telling me I was next at the top of the list called another person to go back into the ER exam rooms, I decided to leave but she stated that I would be charged for sitting in the ER for almostv 4 hrs with a life threatening issue. Swollen ankles could be: Edema in foot and ankle
Swelling of the foot, ankle and leg can be severe enough to leave an indentation (pit) when you press on the area. This swelling (edema) is the result of excess fluid in your tissues — often caused by congestive heart failure or blockage.
I know one ankle had been injured but they both are swollen now. Like the size of a walnut just below the ankle. I'm getting frustrated for lack of medical attention. NOW IM HAVING PAINS IN MY UPPER LEGS. I have called my Dr again requesting to see a specialis. " - Margaret

Vidant Medical Center: "I have never seen a worse situation in an emergency room. People waiting for hours and hours in a chair with every body else for treatment or a bed to lie down in. Even the employees faces express their sympathy as there is nothing they can do. I have seen this time after time since I take care of an elderly patient that gets dehydrated and needs medical attention from time to time. Even a trip in an ambulance will dump you into the waiting room unless you have trauma. At least my patient got an IV in the ambulance. IT WAS NEVER THIS WAY TILL VIDANT TOOK OVER. " - james
