St Vincent's East Stories

St Vincent's East: "My wife has been a patient this time for 5 days. What amazes me more than anything is the sheer lack of communication between departments. I actually came to The hospital this morning and they didn’t know where my wife was. I found her in surgery. The sign up n a he surgery waiting kept showing my wife was in her room. After 3 trips between 3rd & 5th floors, I finally located my wife in surgery. Imagine come into a hospital and not knowing where the patient is. (See above for communication comment). I will NEVER allow my wife to return to this hospital. What I’m doing here is communicating that I don’t like your hospital I don’t like the way it’s run and we will never be back once my wife is discharged." - Mike

St Vincent's East: "Went to the ER with bruised ribs. I only went there because I had bruised ribs before and had been told that it was necessary to breathe fully to prevent pneumonia. The previous time I had bruised ribs, I went to a St. Vincent's Occupational Health clinic and they gave me sufficient pain medication that allowed me to follow their instructions and everything healed up in about 2 weeks. This time, at the ER, they gave me Naproxen (it's same as Aleve) and it did not work. I'm unemployed and enrolled in graduate school, so I don't have extra money. I called my primary physician ( Dr. Jack Zaremba) as
ER instructions stated but he would require me to come into the office before determining if my medication was insufficient. The ER card reader wasn't working, so I still have that bill to pay and now Dr. Zaremba was looking to get his cut. Healthcare isn't about health or care anymore. It's just about $$$."

St Vincent's East: "Seen the doctor one time and that was to ask what was going on, he never returned! After being diagnosed with an uti they gave me numerous prescriptions didnt explain what any of them were for and sent me on my way, ignoring the fact i was complaining of other pain and discomfort (6/23/2017). Followed my instincts got up the next morning and went to UAB, blood pressure was 85/58 temp was 102 heart rate 112 had a golf ball sized abscess thankful i followed my mind and got a second better opinion because St. Vincents East was extremely nonchalant and uncaring." - Dee

St Vincent's East: "Went emergency room sat Nov 5 with kidney stone and pain. I had to sit and wait 3 hours with somewhat serious pain. I think some kind of patient screening needs to be implemented to take patients in pain more quickly than 3 hours. Also, the emergency room waiting area and bathrooms were very dirty, the bathrooms just downright nasty! The care and doctor were good and helpful but getting in to see them was a very bad experience." - Max
