St Joseph's Hospital - Savannah Stories

St Joseph's Hospital - Savannah: "Two years ago I had my left hip done in Aventura hospital in North Miami Beach FL. He was the best 2 days in hospital 12 days at a well organized rehab home care and I was good to go. He retired a year early than expected.. I moved to Savannah. My right hip was getting worse by the second. I met with an orthopedic surgeon and scheduled a hip replacement for June 28. I was cleared by Chatham orthopedic by memorial hospital and by my PCP. The day of surgery I am in pre op they administed the lala drug and ready to go. As I was being rolled into operating room my surgery was cancelled. It seams that 11 days wasn't good enough to be off baby aspirin. I was devastated and very angry that no one told me that this surgeon makes you get off 14 days before surgery.
I now needed to find another surgeon. I met Dr Mark Winchell a very handsome on the outside surgeon. After meeting with him I thought he was cockey but the pain was too much. It took almost 2 months to get a return call from his office to schedule surgery. On September 30 I was scheduled for surgery. After surgery I went to the orthopedic floor. The entire employee staff nurses p.t. cna has no respect for my surgeon. When Winchell came to see me I blinked and he was gone. He thinks he's good no time to listen to his patients. The next day he called me a wimp. I didn't get it since I'm a 61 lady in great shape worked out my entire life I thought to myself what mess did I get myself into. The next day hurricane Matthew passed by Savannah and Winchell was the only surgeon that left. For the week that I was in hospital not one call from Winchell. Finally after 11 days he returned and discharged meto home health.. st joseph home health is the best. They truly enjoy what they do and it shows. Luv each and everyone of them. I then had my first kidney stone attack let me tell you no picnic. I met Dr Ruth Miles a wonderful physician.a procedure was done and I felt better. My leg dishence in my wound of hip replacement. I went to Winchell who refused to treat me because he claims I didn't pay $45 copay one of my visits.( I did pay and have excellent credit). I cried. The next day I send to candler to the end.r. the e.r. doctor said that I need to go back to Winchell. Gave me antibiotics and discharged me. The next day I ran 103 temperature. I am by myself no family left and scared. Home health care came the next day took one look at my leg made a phone call and back to er by ambulance. This time I was admitted . The next day the nurse came in told me I have MRSA. Roni ( the best nurse ever) explained to me what MRSA. Then I met with a take charge awesome infectious disease physician Dr. Conception. She told me I needed additional surgery. No one else would do it except Winchell. She's very convincing and against my better judgement I agreed. Too many eyes are watching him not to worry. I'm overwhelmed but no complications from wash.the next 2 weeks Dr conception would take an extra 5 or ten minutes and spend time with me. Very comforting. Off to rehab. Went to abercorn rehab and nursing. A horrible place. Their wound care nurse left a wound vac attached to my leg and it was broken. I escaped. Went back to St Joseph. Dr conception told me that I also have actintobactor. Hospital stay over a week. Went to Thunderbolt nursing. What a difference. But got staph facioan. Back in hospital over a week. The last day they told me I was going back to nursing home. I refused to go. I'm better now no need.st Joseph social worker lied and said that I agreed to go back. We never met before. The JEA (Jewish educated alliance) had planned for me to stay at extended stay of America. I'm better now but this has taken a tremendous toll on me. I was a motivational speaker for 25 years teaching sales seminars. I bought a R.V. and currently traveling thru USA playing Scrabble and entering tournaments. It's unfortunate that employees who don't like what they do could make a company look bad. This is a hospital which makes it worse. On the most part st Joseph and st Joseph candler has their act together. A few bad apples including Winchell. Oh well I moved on."
