St Francis Hospital Stories

St Francis Hospital: "I brought my mother into the ER on 091222 at around 1400 hours, because she was complaining of shortness or breath and pressure in the upper part of her chest. We have been sitting in the ER at this point for over 9 hours. The pressure in her chest stopped around 1800 hours. Around 2200 hours a very nice physician assistant Melissa came out and was the only sign of a DR we saw. She went over her results from the EKG completed at 1430 hours and her blood work. She asked my mom about her history, recent issues and listened to concerns we had about recent things we have noticed recently concerning mom. Melissa new from speaking w us that mom had a follow up for stress test the next day already scheduled or she would have admitted mom. Melissa did however want to have mom a second EKG and Blood work to compare. The EKG was done quickly.and there was only 2 people ahead of her to get blood drawn. Her blood was not drawn for over an hour and a half. (With only 2 people ahead of us). It was not until Melissa had to stop what she was doing to get someone to draw the blood before the task was completed. I’m only grateful that moms condition subsided on its own. I also want to thank Melissa for her professionalism but other than her this ER is totally uncapable of treating patients properly." - John

St Francis Hospital: "Arrogant and pompous physicians. My father in law was seen at st. Francis for an angioplasty. After less than one week he developed a severe infection and was readmitted to the hospital. The doctor was very confusing in his terminology. He stated my father in law had sepsis, however the blood cultures were negative. I inquired if the problem was with the newly placed stents. The doctor became very hostile. I waited for the doctor to leave the room to inquire from the doctor why the cardiologist was not consulted. He stated he is the internist and a specialist with infections and who was I to question him. Everyone says be an advocate in your healthcare. But this docto4 found it unbelievable that I would question him or his decisions. He was an obnoxious, pompous donkey. I tried to contact Human Resources or the floor nurse since he flashed his badge at me and told me to complain he didn’t care. His professionalism and conduct makes me wonder about his competency. since he doesn’t like being questioned. He further stated that I should be thanking him for treating him after laying in the hospital for almost 2 days with sepsis. I refuse to thank someone for doing such a poor job in his manner and for doing the job he was being paid to do. He isn’t a god." - Knox

St Francis Hospital: "This is the slowest emergency room that I have ever experienced. People are vomiting. People are crying in pain. Nobody is even checking the patients. Either the hospital is grossly understaffed or they have the worst staff anywhere. I will not be at all surprised if someone falls over dead. The staff will not notice. Slow does not begin to describe this place. Stay away. You will die and they will not notice." - Julie

St Francis Hospital: "Dec.22,2017 I went to St. Francis emergency in the 10:00ish hour seeking medical attention for my lower back. My pain was a 7 rating 1- 10. After giving my insurance card and ID she returned a short time after stating that Connecticare told her that I needed $150.00 paid immediately or no service will be provided to me. I contacted my insurance carrier Dec 26, 2017 no call was made or documented with Connecticare. I was so hurt, humiliated, embarrassed, discriminated against. Why me I can't comprehend this situation" - Debra

St Francis Hospital: "St. Francis hospital ER is by far the WORST ER my family and I have ever been treated in. My mom went in complaining of rib pain, they misdiagnosed her after making her wait SIX HOURS with a fractured rib. Turns out, it was not fractured! My husband has a heart condition and has gone twice to be seen, both times the staff is rude and seems to have no organization or clue what they are doing. I have gone in with a pregnancy related complaint, to which they grouped me in the general population and made me wait (while vomiting every 15mins like clockwork in waiting room) for about an hour and a half before even doing triage on me. Once they call you back they put most people in a "cattle room" meaning, no bed, no privacy, and 10-20 other sick people sitting around you for HOURS. Expect a visit to take a minimum of 4-5hours and a rude staff when you go here. Avoid if at all possible!!!!" - Julia
