South Lake Hospital: "How do you gather the information necessary for you to advise the public that a certain facility is safe?

Because, your endorsement of South Lake Hospital in Clermont, Florida is unquestionably, wrong. My testimony here is one of tens, if not hundreds of thousands, and, a grass roots community effort in the city of Clermont and surrounding areas of south Lake County, Florida is in place to advise as many people as humanly possible that if they want to DIE, then they should go to South Lake Hospital. If they want sub standard care, average care? Go anywhere else.

I was verbally assaulted by a Registered Nurse. Assaulted, as in “intentionally putting another person in reasonable apprehension of an imminent harmful or offensive contact, physical injury is not required”. A nurse, by definition, is a “person trained to care for the sick or infirm, especially in a hospital”. Nurses should CARE for patients, not HARM them. Another employee witnessed this assault.

I reported the incident, and subsequently was ‘punished’ by the same above-referenced Registered Nurse, who intentionally withheld the administration of my scheduled pain medication by 3 hours and 10 minutes. An employee witnessed this as well.

I was discharged from the hospital on Friday afternoon with NO prescription for pain medication following a total knee arthroplasty. Again, another employee can corroborate this as a witness.

An anesthesiologist came to my room 1 or 2 days after the surgery to ask me how I was doing, post-surgery. I told her that I awoke from general anesthesia screaming and crying in pain and that the pain had yet to subside. She said, “oh. Sorry.” And then she walked out of my room. Another employee witnessed this incident.

I have had many surgeries of many types in my 50 years. I have NEVER experienced this level of pain before. My exasperating, frustrating, agonizing, imploring, BEGGING pleas for pain management were not heard and I do not know why. Today, Monday, 4/19/21, I remain in the same horrifically agonizing level of pain that I woke up to in post-op recovery on Monday, 4/12/21. NO ONE HEARD MY PLEAS, and, I assure one and all, those pleas were LOUD, constant, and specific.

This was not one surgeon’s, one hospitalist’s, one RN’s, one CNA’s, one nutritionist’s, one PT’s error. This was a result of an abysmal systemic failure of an entire hospital’s administration. As I laid in that hospital bed for 5 agonizingly, excruciatingly painful days and 4 nights, I seriously considered what tools were available to me in my room which I could utilize to end my life, as my level of pain was so beyond what it should have been, I would have done ANYTHING for pain relief. The faces of my children emblazoned in my brain are the only reason I am still alive.

I walked into South Lake Hospital, as mildly anxious as anyone else would be who was facing such a daunting surgery. My surgeon did his job, and I am grateful to him for that. But, once he closed me up and handed me off to the people who are TASKED with providing “care, compassion, nursing”? South Lake Hospital failed ME, as best as one could be failed except for causing my death, which, came frighteningly closer than anyone knows but me.

I will NEVER give South Lake Hospital another PENNY of business for the rest of my days. And, I will not be quiet about my experience. Au contraire."

South Lake Hospital: "I had a kidney stone attack .I went to this hospital with lots of pain. The ER nurse and Doctor I met was not patient friendly at all. After sitting for 5 hours in a chair with unbelievable pain I asked the nurse if I can have a bed to lye down for 5 minutes. The answer was no. (Just a side note I also suffer from chronic back pain and I'm disabled)
I had no choice I lay down on the floor .There was a nice patient in the same room who went to ask for a blanket for me . The answer was NO. I lay on the floor with the worst pain in my life for ~20 min when they call my name and sending me to a room .As I walk there I see empty rooms one after the other .finally I can lay down. Then I'm scheduled for surgery I waited 24 hours for my surgery but this is another story. "

South Lake Hospital: "My mom was misdiagnosed there twice and I have been there twice in the last day because they told me to come back the second day for a recheck when I went the 2 Nd day and waited 3 hours to be seen to be asked why are you back you had to need to . So the doctor was wrong again . If you see the nurse Jen Harris start running and don’t go back . She’s the rudest person there no empathy at all and nasty " - Emily

    South Lake Hospital: "
Patient First? What a joke, what is first is milking insurance companies for unnecessary treatment and hospital stays. What is first is nurses on the ICU floor talking about their pets and ignoring the phones because "we don't answer phones", What is first is nurses clerical work and not a 93 year old women who has not had solid food in three days, who has been on her back in the same bed for 3 days without being moved to a chair, asking for help because her back hurt and being ignored, not being given pain medication, and left to suffer. What is first is a doctor trying to decide whether or not to do a procedure while the patient waits and insurance is charged for unnecessary room charges. What is first is an inexperienced nurse who bangs my 93 year old mothers head with the TV remote, then bangs her bed into a wall while moving her. What is first is an arrogant, greedy doctor who finally does decide to do the procedure, which took 15 minutes and wants the patient to stay another day unnecessarily. What is first is my mothers concerns, putting an incompetent staff in it's place, standing up to a scamming doctor and calling him out on it, and taking my mom home, with or without discharge papers. To whoever is reading this, this is our only community hospital, something needs to be done about the lack of quality care and corruption that seems to be feeding it.
