Northwest Medical Center: "We brought my son to the URGENT CARE AFFILIATE of NORTHWEST MEDICAL CENTER, because his PCP was unavailable when he came home from school with a very swollen lymph node. The provider, Dr. Charles Wiesel, walked in, palpated his neck, confirmed that the lymph node was swollen, and wrote a prescription for a basic antibiotic that we had filled at a separate pharmacy.
$683.64. Yes, that was the charge. $399.64 for the "facility fee," and "284.00" for the "provider fee." This is simply egregious. At no time did anyone at the Urgent Care facility alert us to the higher cost of care at that particular center because of its affiliation with the Northwest Medical Center.
Subsequent to the bill, I spoke with numerous representatives from the Business Office, billing, the actual Urgent Care Center, and so forth. I was passed to numerous incorrect numbers in an attempt to hear from Dr. Wiesel about why he checked the care boxes he did that led to billing code that led to the high provider fee. One person at the Urgent Care where my son received care said, "I don't know who that is, and I don't know where to find him. We all rotate here."
The billing folks simply refer to the state-approved charges for the codes that were input during my son's visit.
The coders said they simply read the physicians notes to be sure the codes are correct.
The physician who wrote the notes is nowhere to be found.
And each department can say, "oh, you must want the other department."
