Mississippi Baptist Medical Center Stories

Mississippi Baptist Medical Center: "Arrived around 7 to 7:30pm , August 6, 2021, with possible appendix rupture. Was signed in by the ER desk person and asked to put on new mask and sanitize hands. Was handed a tablet with a form to fill out and a pen with a black spoon attached to it. First complaint was that the same pen with spoon attached was handed to every other person who entered the facility, WITHOUT being sanitized!!!! Waited patiently til finally called back to triage to be evaluated. Told nurses I suspected a possible appendicitis, with pain level around 8 out of a possible 10.. Was sent back to waiting area to wait for a call back. Obviously, a possible appendix rupture was not high on the triage list. After waiting for more than 5 hours with no call back, went to window to ask desk person what the problem might be and why we had not been called back yet. She said we were welcome to go back to triage and see how much longer wait would be. My husband was told there were still four more patients ahead of us so at least another three to four hour wait. After sitting in a very uncomfortable waiting room with many other people and two drunk/stoned men who managed to get into a foul language shouting match, we said screw this and left. I don’t know what has happened to the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. They used to be top notch! We have lived in Birmingham, Ala. for the last 25 years, and just recently moved back to Miss. to retire. I was appalled at the condition of the ER facility and the total lack of consideration for waiting patients. I am from Miss. and years ago would never have hesitated to recommend Baptist to anyone, BUT NOT NOW! I would have been better off driving back to Alabama to get help. It is only a four hour drive, and given how long we waited, I certainly would have had time to drive there, be seen, and drive back. MBMC DO BETTER!!!!!!!!!! " - Donna

Mississippi Baptist Medical Center: "The absolute worst hospital I've ever had the misfortune of using. Not only is the service and care horrific, the billing is even worse. It doesn't matter how much you pay, you will always owe more. It may be 2 years later, but you can be sure that one day out of the blue you'll get a letter from a collections agency. No bills. No warning. No knowledge of owing anything. The worst hospital in the state." - Dr.
