Maria Parham Medical Center Stories

Jul 13, 2022, 8:41 AM
Maria Parham Medical Center: "On Monday, July 11, 2022 I was sent to Maria Parham Health ER by my Primary Care doctor due to chest pains. It was a very unpleasant experience. I was shocked at how things were done based on how other ER departments that I'd been to in the past were operated. The triage room had 4 women all asking different questions at the same time while hooking me up to an EKG (that I told them had already been done at my doctor's office). I couldn't think straight! They shoved a cup in my hand and sent me out to the bathroom that the public used. The womens bathroom toilet had overflowed in the floor & the mens toilet smelled like urine but I did my best to give a clean-catch sample. Then the lab technician came to draw my blood right out in the waiting room!!! I asked when did they start doing that? Isn't that a HIPPA violation??? Not to mention very unsanitary. I appreciated her for taking me to a side chair (still a part of the waiting area though) away from other patients to draw my blood.

There was an incident when a hospital worker announced they were short on wheelchairs and needed some. The patients in our area were using 3 chairs. Two of the patients were visibly weakly sick, the other one had a bad ankle. The patient with the bad ankle gave up her wheelchair, the sick girl was asked to give hers up but she said she needed it. The worker told her "you can walk" and made her give up the wheelchair and the girl began to cry. She could walk but she was throwing up and looked weak and sickly. It showed no compassion for the young lady at all. The worker seemed rude and uncaring. With all the Covid money the hospitals received one would think they could buy a few wheelchairs. We only had 3 in the ER area.

Medical consultation was done in the waiting area for patients. A man was given some type of injection in the waiting area. The final results of the young lady sitting beside me was given to her right in the waiting room in front of everyone in there. Anyone listening hard enough could hear it. I couldn't help but hear it because I was right beside her. Her fist name was Princess. I could tell you what they found out and what her course of treatment was. Now I KNOW that is a HIPPA violation! I was called in the back for my results thank God.

This ER department was run like it was a tent set up for emergency treatment. The only time I saw the inside of a hospital room was when my chest xray was done but I can guarantee my bill will not reflect that. As large as the hospital is we patients should get better treatment than this. I am very disappointed & shocked. I didnt even mention that I was there over 5 hrs and they weren't busy at all. Never did I speak to a real doctor, only Physician Assistants. Maria Parham definitely needs to do a whole lot better. If at all possible I will be taking my business elsewhere and will suggest my friends and family to do the same. I did not feel as though I was appreciated not in the least bit at this hospital."
