Lewisgale Medical Center: "This place is a joke. Go elsewhere. They lost the prescription they wrote for me and cone to find out they sent it to the wrong place. I called back and ended up getting no help. They said we can't reach that doctor so just call the follow up referral. They do not care. They just pass the buck. 2nd or 3rd time dealing with this hospital and never again. DO NOT GO HERE. This place is below average at best. They are clueless. Never again for me." - Kenny

Lewisgale Medical Center: "My husband was sent to LG ER in Salem for an emergency CAT-scan by one of Lewis Gale Physicians offices. She said, it "could" be an emergency and she wanted him to go straight to the ER. She said she could not order a CAT-Scan STAT from her office and it is REQUIRED that patients go through the ER. This is absurd! ANOTHER BILL FOR THE PATIENT, a high cost ER bill and in the end not even seeing an actual doctor. They ran blood and urine tests again and nothing significant showed. That in itself was wrong. He was there for a CAT-Scan. What has happened to Lewis Gale ER in Salem? Worst experience and quality care I have ever seen. From the time you go in to register, the TINY waiting area is not large enough to accommodate many people. They shuffle you around like a ping pong ball from one area to another as you sit waiting to be seen. There is not enough chairs no matter where they seat you to accommodate anyone other than the patient. We were moved to two locations AFTER THE MAIN LOBBY WAIT as was everyone else we saw in the initial waiting area. The 2nd area was claustrophobic and cramped WITH FEW CHAIRS FOR SEATING. A man of the staff came out and said "if you are not a patient, you have to stand." There were 4 of us standing with only a few seats left for patients. All of four of us standing was the only one with the patient. He was in this area for about an hour and a half and someone with a patient must stand? My husband finally goes back to be seen with yet another lengthy wait. LET ME POINT OUT NOW HE NEVER SAW A DOCTOR the entire time he was there. A NP was evaluating him for an ordered CAT-Scan. They hooked up an IV for fluids. HE WAS NOT dehydrated. I asked why? Was told it was standard procedure. If you don't need it, don't give it. WE have to pay for that unnecessary IV that they removed after about 30 minutes. THE BAG WAS STILL FULL. if IT WAS THAT NECESSARY THEY SHOULD HAVE LEFT HIM ON IT. We were constantly telling nurses what was going on AND THE PAIN RADIATED FROM THE LEFT SIDE. NO ONE LISTENED. We even said we suspected a cause of his pain on some medicine he was taking. He is on a lot of medication for Diabetes. She said, "We don't interfere with what another Dr. prescribes. Are you kidding me again? Even if that medicine could be causes the problem AND MAKING SOMEONE SICK? THE CAT-SCAN CAME BACK CLEAR OF HIS STOMACH AREA. Was then told there was nothing else she could do. As a matter of fact, I heard another doctor tell a patient the exact same thing when she had been in pain, losing weight and was very sick. This PA my husband saw wrote a prescription for OTC Prilosec and another RX for something to MASK his stomach pain without even TRYING to get to the bottom. He had already been taking Prilosec with no help and we told her that. INDIGESTION IS NOT HIS PROBLEM. There was NO referrals to a Specialist and no doctor apparently is available for the patients who come in with pain TO MAKE A PROPER DIAGNOSIS OR REFERRAL to a specialized staff Doctor. He had bouts of vomiting (at night only and not every night) and constant pain for almost two weeks. No fever just a lot of pain. If they don't know the problem, they send you on your way. We are STUCK with an ER hospital bill all because we ONLY needed a CAT-SCAN that could not be ordered through his doctors office that morning. This is a rip off to patients and insurance companies. ER's are NOT what they used to be. We did what was right and made an appointment with the Drs office, but STILL was sent to the ER for a simple CAT-scan that took 10 minutes. ALL OF THAT BLOOD AND URINE TESTING WAS NOT NECESSARY AT THIS POINT. Now we have another overpriced ER bill to pay for absolutely NOTHING. We are done with Lewis Gale Hospital. I will never allow anyone in my family to step foot in that useless ER. By the way, My husband is still in pain which ranges from mild to sharp and vomited again in the middle of the night. There could be something VERY WRONG, but we will not know until he is too far gone and could possibly suffer more damage. Go on home....you will be fine because we don't care enough to send you where you really need to go, to provide you with a Doctor in the ER or a referral to someone who cares enough to get to the issue. WHY NOT? This ER is connected to Specialists and the actual hospital. " - Donna
