Clinton Memorial Hospital Stories

Clinton Memorial Hospital: "Dr Clark is a terrible human being beyond anything else you should know about this hospital. If he is the one you have to go to for a birth you should run the other direction entirely. We had a home birth that required a transfer NOT for anything major, just for petosin because my wife's contractions weren't long enough even though she had been complete for hours. Also she needed her bladder emptied via Cath because she was unable to pee and had about 1000ml of urine in her. The babies heart tones were great the entire time and her blood pressure and heart rate was great as well. Literally no emergency whatsoever just not the proper equipment needed for this particular incident at the home birth environment. So we transferred there and then Dr Clark stomped in and was very rude to our midwife and very cold to us as well, he wanted to do a c section but the baby was already in the birth canal all we needed was an empty bladder for room and petosin (the more important part) to get the contractions to last more than 30 seconds. Dr Clark gave my wife a chance to push with petosin after the bladder was emptied and after that he lightened up a little and decided (even though we already knew) that a vaginal birth would work fine. His extreme harshness towards an amazing midwife who has preformed almost a thousand births and has nothing but 5 star reviews was unprofessional and ignorant. That's not the worst part. So after the baby was born, he threw the baby down on my wife's chest and immediately (not a good thing to do) clamped the umbilical cord and had me cut it almost as soon as the baby hit her chest. You are suppose to wait a minute or 2 before cutting the cord, it is healthier for the baby. After that, my wife had a 2nd degree tear and he said out loud that it didn't reach her muscles around her anus and that the tear wasn't bad. Then he without asking or saying anything no warning at all shoved his finger in my wife's anus to check for a tear he already said was not there and then he wiped off his gloves fecal matter with a gauze and proceeded to suture the wound without changing gloves!!! That is HIGHLY unsanitary and could have easily given her an infection, any idiot (even someone not medically trained) knows that is extremely dangerous and unacceptable. He should be terminated for his quick corner cutting and disgusting malpractice. Also he gave her liticane (however it's spelled) for numbing before suturing her tear and he didn't even wait a second before beginning to suture her, you are suppose to wait 10 minutes for it to numb things and to check to make sure it was numb so she felt almost all of that as well and jumped because of the pain and the lack of warning. In general this Dr thought he had to come in on his day off to save someone who's in danger because of a midwife when in reality all we needed was the petosin and the cath for the bladder. The nurses could have caught the baby honestly and the majority of them were 1000 times nicer, you could even catch the vibe that they didn't like him either. He was rude, quick to cut corners, and full of malpractices and he should NOT have a medical license whatsoever. His ego and his "I didn't want to be here on my day off" attitude nearly cost my wife a beautiful vaginal birth and could have cost her to have a bad infection. I will be making a formal complaint about Dr Clark shortly as I think this hospital could do wonders without him. Otherwise the nurses and all the help and pediatricians were all great aside from one nurse who seemed to be a bit rough compared to literally everyone else. The facility has a great pediatric facility based on what we have experienced so far as well. The mother baby care department is pretty secure and generally comfortable for a hospital but that one Dr has no place in the medical field and gives every medical professional a bad name and is the exact reason many people are going to home births to avoid terrible hospitals and their very quick to say "welp it's been a couple hours time to cut the baby out" when in reality births can take several hours on average easily. I hope someone reads this and decides to go a different direction with their care, and if there is anyone at this hospital reading this, I hope to God you report that Dr for everything he has done, before he costs more women. I fear his malpractice will end up killing a mother that would otherwise have a normal birth. " - James
